Forecast for the Future

"Every individual without exception bears a potential writer within himself. The reason is that everyone has trouble accepting the fact that he will disappear unheard of and unnoticed in an indifferent universe, and everyone wants to make himself into a universe of words before it's too late.

Once the writer in every individual comes to life (and that time is not that far off), we are in for an age of universal deafness and lack of understanding."

liveblog Bike Ride to Montauk

Ok, on the train to Mastic now where me and a hundred or so other folks will begin our 65 mile journey to Montauk. Some crazy souls already began their journey this morning at 3:45 am--those more constituted folk (like E-bad's father) are traveling the full 145 miles from Penn St to Montauk by bike. I'm saying right now to myself "Maybe next year?" But of course, first things first.

If you were one of the 150-200 people who either did not get your bike or got it at 2:30pm in the afternoon, then no - you did not have fun. I had to travel all the way to Montauk by train and bus, only to retrieve my bike and bag, reload and go back on LIRR. 16 hours door to door, either on a bus, a train or standing in the blazing sun. And some people didn't even get their bike back by end of night!!! Way too much flexibility in picking routes, signing up day of, etc...given that there is no organization to support the 2000k+ riders who rode that day. Serious waste of both time and money.
